Reem Acra's Authoritative Sauce

There's a quietly classy designer from Lebanon who lives in New York called Reem Acra who really does not get the attention she deserves. Her latest show in New York, presented Monday, Feb. 13, was not exactly chock a block with critics and editors, but it should have been.
Acra is not the most revolutionary designer but she's an undoubtedly a very skilled one. Her take on cool, embellished modernism was a quiet lesson in how to create plausibly chic clothes that will manage to look great in lots of different contexts, culture and communities.

Whitney Houston's Body Believed Headed Home to New Jersey

The circumstances and Houston's history of drug addiction have left many speculating that her death is the result of a toxic mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol.
"You can look at a body and not know (what) the cause of death is, you might have a suspicion, but the person could have suffered a heart attack or embolism,''said Ed Winter, spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner. Results of toxicology tests are not expected to be complete for six to eight weeks.
Earlier today, Houston's entourage moved out of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where the singer died. Sources tell ABC News that many close to Houston have been questioned about her final hours.

Rose remains day to day for Bulls

Rose was examined Monday by a specialist, and general manager Gar Forman says no structural damage was found. That’s good news for the Eastern Conference-leading Bulls.
The league’s reigning MVP, Rose is averaging 22.0 points and 7.8 assists, but he’s missed seven games because of problems with his back and left big toe. He sat out the past two games at Charlotte and Boston and being limited in the previous two.

Yankees, Pirates progressing toward Burnett deal

Pittsburgh would pay at least $10 million of the $33 million Burnett is owed in the final two seasons of his $82.5 million, five-year contract, a person familiar with the discussions said Monday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because talks are ongoing.
The exact amount of money involved in the trade depends on the quality of the prospects the Yankees would receive, the person said.
Burnett, a 35-year-old right-hander, has struggled to a 34-35 record and 4.79 ERA during three seasons with New York and went 11-11 with a 5.15 ERA last year. His average of 3.98 walks per nine innings is second in the AL and fifth in th

Bryant hits game-winner, Lakers edge Raptors 94-92

Bryant hit a baseline jump shot with 4.2 seconds left and the Lakers wrapped up a six-game road trip by holding on to beat the Raptors 94-92 on Sunday, their eighth victory in nine meetings with Toronto.
“When you’ve got a guy like Kobe Bryant, you’re always going to give yourself a chance,” Lakers coach Mike Brown said.
Bryant, who scored 27 points, took an inbound pass from World Peace, evaded DeMar DeRozan and shot over the outstretched arms of James Johnson to deny the Raptors.

Cespedes agrees to $36M, 4-year deal with A’s

Cespedes and the A’s have agreed to a $36 million, four-year contract— quite a splash for the low-budget franchise that traded away several key faces this offseason.
Agent Adam Katz confirmed Monday the slugging outfielder had reached agreement on a deal, with details still to be finalized. This is a significant move for Oakland, which wanted to add a steady hitter.
Cespedes will earn $6.5 million this year, $8.5 million in 2013 and $10.5 million in each of the final two seasons. He can become a free agent at the end of the contract, which is the highest for a Cuban

Ortiz, Red Sox avoid hearing, agree at $14,575,000

“I feel happy since I avoided going to arbitration,” he said on Monday, hours before the hearing had been scheduled to start in St. Petersburg, Fla. “People are used to see me with the Red Sox uniform and when you have so much time in one organization, and you’re identified with it, the best thing is to stay, even if it is for 1 or 2 million less.”
The Red Sox have not gone to an arbitration hearing in 10 years and have no unsigned players eligible for arbitration.
Ortiz hit .309 with 29 homers and 96 RBIs last year.
Signed as a free agent from the Minnesota Twins in 2003, the 36-year-old is entering his 10th season with the Red Sox.
“I figure I was gonna reach this deal, and that’s what we’re celebrating right now,” he said.
He played last season in the option year of a contract that paid him $65,225,000 over five seasons.
Ortiz remains in the middle of a Red Sox lineup that has undergone several changes since the team went 7-20 last September and missed the playoffs on the final day of the regular season.
Left fielder Carl Crawford is expected to miss the start of the season after surgery on his left wrist; shortstop Marco Scutaro was traded to Colorado; and catcher Jason Varitek and right fielder J.D. Drew were not re-signed.
But the first five batters in the lineup return led by center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, who finished second in the AL MVP voting. Also back are second baseman Dustin Pedroia, first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and third baseman Kevin Youkilis.
Ortiz had an outstanding season after getting off to poor starts the previous two
Ortiz is fifth in team history with 320 homers, 59 behind Dwight Evans for fourth place, and sixth with 1,028 RBIs, 219 behind Bobby Doerr for fifth place.
The 36-year-old accepted Boston’s offer of arbitration under the last year of the old collective bargaining agreement. Starting this fall, instead of arbitration teams may give their players qualifying offers equal to the average salary of the top 125 players ranked by salary.

Zambia celebrates as team wins African Cup

LUSAKA, Zambia (AP) — Zambians poured out of their houses, clubs and bars to celebrate in the streets early Monday after watching their team beat Ivory Coast 8-7 on penalties in the African Cup finals.
It was a bittersweet victory in Libreville, Gabon. Last week after arriving for the finals, Zambia's current players laid flowers on a stretch of sand in Libreville not far from where a Zambian military plane crashed into the ocean soon after takeoff in 1993, killing 25 players and officials on board as well as a state news agency sports reporter and the military transport plane's crew.
Back in 1993, state broadcasters interrupted normal programming to announce the crash in the eight languages spoken in Zambia. In Lusaka, the capital, men and women wept in offices and on the streets.
On Monday, there were only cheers.
"It is a dream come true," said David Phiri, a plumber. Then he blew hard on his vuvuzela, the piercing trumpet heard around the world during broadcasts from the World Cup in neighboring South Africa in 2010.
Jubilant Zambians also honked the horns of cars draped in their flag, shouted from windows, and sang football songs.
"It was written in the stars that we will be the champions," Winfreda Muyunda said breathlessly as she ran out to join a street party that had converged in front of a Lusaka police station. Some women were in their night gowns covered by traditional cotton wrappers known as chitenge, while most men and boys were shirtless

Rondo powers Celtics over Rose-less Bulls

Rajon Rondo scored 32 points, passed out 15 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Boston Celtics past the NBA Eastern Conference-leading Chicago Bulls 95-91 on Sunday.
Rondo scored 16 points in the first half, pushing the Celtics to a 48-43 half-time lead, and Boston surged ahead 86-72 before an 11-3 Chicago run in the final minutes helped trim the final margin.
The Bulls were without reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Derrick Rose, who was sidelined for a second game in a row ahead of a Monday trip to see a Chicago back specialist after recent struggles with back spasms.
Kevin Garnett added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Celtics, who improved to 15-12 but were still 3 1/2 games behind Philadelphia in the NBA's Atlantic division.
The Bulls fell to 23-7, still atop the Central division by 4 1/2 games over Indiana and the East by 1 1/2 games over Miami. But in the fight for the overall NBA lead, Chicago slid behind the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are 21-6.
Carlos Boozer and C.J. Watson each scored 22 points to lead Chicago, which also had 16 points and nine rebounds from Joakim Noah. Britain's Luol Deng went 3-of-12 from the field for 10 points for the Bulls.

At Doo.Ri, a focus on the complete woman

NEW YORK (AP) — A woman is not one thing. She's a complete, complex package. Her clothes need to be that way too, says Doo-Ri Chung.
"I wanted to address the really put-together woman," the designer said backstage after presenting the Fall 2012 Doo.Ri collection Friday at New York Fashion Week. "One who really takes care of herself, and who's mindful of what she puts out there. We've been so item-driven (in fashion). I wanted to change that in this collection."
And so, one of her most intriguing items, an elegant black "laser-cut" gown with lots of delicate cutouts and an embroidered neckline, was not shown by itself; It was paired with a lush black shearling jacket on top.
"It's for the fall, so it's cold," said Chung. "I imagine this is how the woman is wearing it outside."
And it's not just any woman that Chung is envisioning. "I want to dress a real woman, not a child. Someone with vision, intellect and soul," said Chung, whose designs from past seasons include a draped purple one-shoulder gown that Michelle Obama wore to a state dinner for the president of South Korea, where Chung was born.
The colors she presented for fall were sophisticated: Ink, plum, charcoal, bone, ice gray, occasionally a pale pink, and a hue called "rich brass" — a yellowy green.
There was lots of draping — in tops, skirts, sweaters — and slouching, as in a bone silk or printed silk "slouchy dress." One of her best effects was the "laser-cut" detailing — in the neckline of a gray turtleneck, on the top of a draped, hunter green dress, and, better, on the skirt of an elegant ink-colored dress.
And on that final pretty laser-cut gown: We didn't get to see the top of it, because it was covered with that nice jacket, but it sure looked like a great way to step out of the house on a chilly evening.

New president of the Maldives expands his Cabinet

MALE, Maldives (AP) — The Maldives' new president has expanded his Cabinet to include members of the former autocratic ruler's party, and Islamic conservatives will be appointed ministers in coming days.
Conservatives have been demanding the introduction of strict Islamic laws in the Indian Ocean nation that relies on high-end tourism.
Demonstrations over the past year calling for more religiously conservative policies as well as widespread protests over soaring prices had put pressure on the former leader, Mohamed Nasheed. He resigned last week after his order to arrest a senior judge sparked continuous protests. He later said he had been ousted in a coup, leading to a political crisis.
New President Mohammed Waheed Hassan said he was forming a coalition government to help restore stability in the Muslim country ahead of presidential elections due next year. Six members from four political parties were sworn in Sunday as ministers.
They include the Progressive Party of the Maldives, headed by Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the former autocratic leader who ruled for 30 years until Nasheed defeated him in the country's first multiparty election in 2008.
Adhaalat, or Justice Party, which wants to see the introduction of Shariah law, and several other moderate parties will also receive ministerial positions, according to presidential spokesman Masood Imad.
Some slots in the Cabinet were being kept open in case Nasheed's Maldivian Democratic Party changed its mind about joining the coalition government, he said.
The constitution prohibits any religion other than Islam from being practiced or preached in the Maldives and specifies that it be governed according to Islamic principles. But authorities have generally been flexible, mainly to preserve the country's tourism industry.
However, Islamic activists led by Adhaalat have protested against the former government's ties with Israel and demanded alcohol not be sold outside resorts. The party also led a protest in December against United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay after she asked the Maldives to stop flogging women found to have had sex outside marriage.
Since losing power, Gayoom has kept away from active politics. Although it is unclear whether he will return to public life, he is likely to influence government policies.
In a speech after the swearing-in ceremony, Hassan said his government would carry forward the programs initiated by the previous government. He did not specify the programs.
"That is what we have to do to recover from the problems we've had in the last couple of weeks," Hassan said.
His government will work to create a conducive environment in which free and fair elections could be held, Hassan said.
New ministers for health, education, economic development, transport, youth affairs and sports and tourism took the oath of office in a short ceremony at the president's office in the capital, Male.
A new attorney general for the island nation was also sworn in. Hassan had appointed ministers for defense and home affairs last week.
The Maldives has been rocked by political turmoil since Nasheed resigned Tuesday and was replaced by Hassan, who had been his vice president. Nasheed claims he was ousted in a coup, a charge the new president denies.
A senior U.S. diplomat who met with Maldivian leaders on Saturday said the country wasn't ready for early elections as a way out of its political crisis.
Political unrest, simmering for the last few months, escalated after a senior judge was arrested by the government on charges of political bias. Nasheed resigned when police and army soldiers joined the protests against his rule.
The new government insists Nasheed stepped down voluntarily, and although police have issued an arrest warrant against the former leader, there has been no move to arrest Nasheed.
Tourism is the main industry in the Maldives, a chain of nearly 1,200 islands off southern India blessed with sandy beaches and coral. Most resorts are located near the beaches and remained mostly untouched by the protests in Male and the southernmost atoll, Addu.

Qantas chief lashed for fleet grounding comments

Qantas chief Alan Joyce on Monday said a fleet grounding he ordered last year was "positive for the brand", sparking an angry backlash from pilots who called his comments "bizarre and worrying".
Joyce pulled all the airline's planes across the world out of the skies for 48 hours last October as part of a protracted labour row with staff over plans to shift the focus of its ailing international arm to Asia.
The grounding followed unions representing pilots, engineers and ground staff repeatedly walking off the job, accusing Irish-born Joyce of attempting to "Asianise" Qantas and outsource jobs in the name of profit.
The dispute was ultimately terminated by an order of the country's industrial relations umpire and cost Qantas Aus$194 million (US$208 million), but Joyce said it had been a good move.
"I think it has ended up being positive for the brand," Joyce told The Australian newspaper, which Monday named him the country's most influential business person, ahead of BHP's Marius Kloppers and ANZ Bank chief Mike Smith.
"In the few months up to the grounding we were being massively disrupted by the unions. We were finding it hard to have a reliable schedule and the business community had left Qantas.
"But after we brought the dispute to a head... we saw an immediate and rapid response of forward booking because certainty was brought back. The days after the grounding I was inundated with emails, 90 percent of them positive."
The Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA) described the remarks as "bizarre and worrying".
It said the move, which stranded tens of thousands of people around the world for almost two days, had caused the airline "catastrophic brand damage".
"Any polling and basic common sense will tell you that when a Qantas CEO spontaneously grounds the entire fleet without good reason... it is going to hurt Qantas's reputation," said AIPA president Captain Barry Jackson.
"Yet Mr Joyce thinks overall it has improved the brand and that's incredibly worrying."
Jackson said Qantas needed to focus on repairing the brand damage sustained in 2011.
"Qantas pilots want nothing more than to help repair the catastrophic damage done last year by our CEO's decision.
"Yet Mr Joyce seems to genuinely believe that the back-slapping he's received from some other CEOs is somehow representative of the flying public. He is completely wrong."
Joyce has insisted he will push ahead with his plans to revamp Qantas, which hinges on the establishment of budget carrier Jetstar Japan and a second Asia-based joint-venture premium airline.

Police Charge Utah Man in Plot to Kill Governor

A Utah man who police say threatened to assassinate Gov. Gary Herbert and who conducted surveillance on the governor's mansion is facing multiple felony charges.
Brian Biff Baker was charged Friday in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court with felony counts of drug and weapons possession, along with a misdemeanor count of threatening elected officials.
Baker sent text messages to a friend on Feb. 2 stating that he was lying in the bushes and intended to kill the governor, court records said. The recipient of the texts reported the messages to police and Baker was arrested the same day, the records said.
In his messages, the 52-year-old Baker said he had been casing the place and that authorities would utter an expletive "when the explosions start ... should be funny as hell, it's a dangerous mission," a police affidavit filed in support of the charges states.
The texts also included a threat to kill a police officer who had driven past the mansion more than once during Baker's period of surveillance the affidavit states.
Police also said that Herbert was at home during the time Baker was conducting surveillance and was removed from the premises for safety reasons.
Investigators enlisted the help of the message recipient to get Baker to come to a nearby gas station, where he was arrested. Police found containers of ammunition, a large knife, explosives, illegal fireworks and small plastic bags of methamphetamine in Baker's truck, court papers said.
Security camera video from the area around the mansion also showed Baker conducting his surveillance, the papers stated.
Baker was being held in the Salt Lake County jail. Bail is set at $25,007. It wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

Botox -- or, Bro-tox -- Increasingly Popular Gift for Men

What to get the man in your life is an ongoing dilemma. The go-to gifts have been gadgets, sports tickets, car equipment and the like.
But a hot item this year is Botox.
"Every time I would rais the actor's forehead and around his eyes. Just a week later, Markoudakis says people told him he looked more refreshed and less stressed.
"So, thank you, to my best friend for my Christmas gift. It was awesome," said Markoudakis.
"I got Botox for Christmas this year to see Dr. [Constantino] Mendieta in Miami," another man, Julio Mendez, told "GMA."
"My appointment is tomorrow and I'm really excited. I have these lines on my forehead," he said.
And 41-year-old real estate analyst Jason Grange, also a patient of Dr. Lawton's, said his wife decided to buy him Botox after he complained about his appearance.
"I looked older," he said. "I looked tired, but I said 'I don't feel tired.'"
"She said, 'I know what I'm gonna get you for Christmas,'" Grange said, of his wife.
He's not the only one getting hooked. An increasing number of men are adding Botox -- or, as some are calling it, Bro-tox -- to their wish lists.
"Every year it seems like more and more men are getting Botox as … gifts, and it's ne my eyebrows I w

Hunts-mentum? Jon Huntsman Draws Big Crowds in New Hampshire

You're seeing a market movement right here, there's no question about it," Huntsman said, beaming. "I can feel the surge on the ground. It's very real. … It's that wave."
The former ambassador to China has been polling around 1 percent nationally and still sits in the single-digits in the latest New Hampshire polls. But those polls apparently don't bother Huntsman.
"They change with each passing hour," he said with a huge smile as reporters swarmed him outside the coffee shop. "They're moving up and up and up. We'll get back on later on and see that we're different than we were this morning and that's great. That's terrific."

Papa John's Employee Calls Woman 'Lady Chinky Eyes' on Receipt

Papa John's has apologized after an employee typed a racial slur on a receipt to a customer Friday at one of its locations in New York City.
Minhee Cho posted an image of the receipt on Twitter, which called her "lady chinky eyes."
"Hey @ PapaJohns just FYI my name isn't 'lady chinky eyes,'" Cho tweeted.
The image went viral, and many tweeted complaints to Papa John's, such as "Your employees are your brand."
Papa John's replied to many complaints via Twitter, noting that the employee was being fired.
"We are very upset by recent receipt issue in New York & sincerely apologize to our customer. Franchise employee involved is being terminated," Papa John's tweeted.
This isn't the first time a restaurant has come under fire over employees using racial or ethnic slurs on receipts.
Last month, a cashier at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Irvine, Calif., was fired after allegedly mocking Asian-American customers, ABC News Los Angeles station KABC-TV reported.
The cashier reportedly used "Ching" and "Chong" in the customer identification line on the receipts.
Photos of those receipts have also gone viral online.
In a written statement, a representative for the fast-food chain told KABC that "the individual clearly violated our operating standards."
"The matter was addressed and discussed immediately with the guests on the spot; and a confirmation was provided that the employee was immediately dismissed for the individual behavior," the statement said.

GOP Rivals Sharpen Attacks at Second N.H. Debate

Charles Krupa/AP Photo
Just 10 hours after the GOP presidential candidates gave their final statements at the ABC/Yahoo/WMUR debate in New Hampshire Saturday night, they were back at it again this morning.
But while the candidates steered clear of directly attacking front-runner Mitt Romney - who has a 20 point lead in the latest NBC/Marist New Hampshire poll - last night, they came out swinging this morning.
A bitter Newt Gingrich, who dropped precipitously in the polls after Romney's Super PAC bombarded him with negative ads in Iowa, blasted Romney for running a decades-long campaign and using his frontrunner status to take more speaking time on the debate stage.
"I realize the red light doesn't mean anything to you because you're the front runner," Gingrich said at the NBC debate today. "But can we drop a little bit of the pious baloney?  The fact is you ran in '94 and lost. You've been running consistently for years and years and years."
Santorum continued Gingrich's barrage, charging that Romney "bail[ed] out" by not running for a second term as governor in Massachusetts.
"If his record was so great as governor of Massachusetts why didn't he run for reelection?" Santorum said. "If it was that great, why didn't you - why did you bail out?  I mean the bottom - the bottom line is - you know, I - I go and fight the fight."
But neither Santorum nor Gingrich kept their sights trained on Romney for long. Soon the debate devolved into a battle for second-place, allowing Romney to once again stay above the fray and stay almost entirely on-message.
Instead of hitting back at his Republican rivals, Romney took a general election tone, blasting President Obama for being "anti-investment, anti-jobs and anti-business."
Santorum continued to play offense against the men he is fighting for second place. He sharply criticized Ron Paul for being "unsuccessful at working with anyone on anything" during the three decades he has served in the House of Representatives.
"The serious issue with Congressman Paul is he has never passed anything of any import," Santorum said. "He's been out there on the margins."
Jon Huntsman chimed in on this attack with his campaign sending out a release that labeled Paul a "fringe candidate."

David Axelrod: Mitt Romney's 'Bain Mentality' Will Undermine His Appeal

sident Obama's chief campaign strategist David Axelrod today on "This Week" honed his two-pronged attack on GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney, insisting the former Bain Capital CEO's record and shifting policy positions will undermine his general election appeal.
"Frankly I don't think bringing a Bain mentality to this economy - to running this economy - makes him a strong candidate," Axelrod told me. "I don't think shifting and moving around on positions - fundamental positions - is one that people are going to embrace."
"Trust is a big issue in the presidency," he said. "I think there's a big trust issue here."
During the ABC News New Hampshire debate Saturday, Romney's Rep

Body Found on Queen's Estate Identified as Missing Teen Alisa Dmitrijeva

The body discovered on property belonging to the Queen of England has been identified as a 17-year-old girl who vanished last year authorities said today.
Alisa Dmitrijeva's body was found on the Sandringham Estate on New Year's Day by a dog walker in a woodland area at Anmer.
The property is used by the British family as a vacation retreat.
Dmitrijeva, from the town of Wisbech, near Cambridge, U.K., disappeared in Aug. 2010 and was last seen 10 miles from the royal grounds.
The decomposed state of the body had complicated efforts to compile a DNA profile and samples taken from teeth, bone and muscle tissue had to be analyzed to identify the body, officials said.
Detective Chief Inspector Jes Fry said despite the remains showing no obvious signs of injury, investigators in Norfolk, U.K. were still treating the incident as a murder inquiry, the BBC reported earlier.
Last week, officials involved in the examination said that it is "highly unlikely" the death was a result of natural causes.
Detectives also found no evidence of accidental injury, damage because of firearms or bladed weapon at the site.

Why Mitt Romney Didn't Get Attacked In Saturday Night's Debate

ABC News
The assumption was that Saturday's ABC/WMUR debate was going to produce some serious fireworks.
After all, you have a front-runner who is quickly assuming the mantle of the "inevitable" nominee. If ever there was a time for his rivals to try and change the trajectory of this race, this was it.
Instead, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Jon Huntsman took only glancing blows at Romney, while Ron Paul battled with Santorum and Gingrich.
So, why was the conventional wisdom so wrong?
1) It's a lot easier to attack someone when you aren't standing three feet away from him. Rick Santorum was exactly where he said he's always wanted to be in this campaign. In the center of the stage and in the spotlight. But, he also discovered, as many others have before him, that with that new position on stage comes additional and unexpected pressures. Making an attack on the campaign trail is easy. Saying it to someone's face is hard.

Back to Iraq? Twitter Ignites Over Perry's Suggestion

ick Perry's attention-grabbing comment that troops should be sent back to Iraq is getting traction on Twitter.
According to our social media-watching friends at BlueFin Labs, Perry's comment in tonight's debate brought about 5,800 messages on Twitter.
That number is just short of the 5,900 prompted by the exchange between Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich over Gingrich's lack of military service.

Behind Gingrich's Rise, Billionaire Pal Sheldon Adelson

Before Newt Gingrich dominated the South Carolina primary, a so-called super PAC supporting him spent millions of dollars savaging Mitt Romney in negative ads and fliers.
A driving force behind that super PAC is Sheldon Adelson, a Las Vegas casino tycoon who has translated his deep friendship with Gingrich into a financial bonanza to buoy his candidacy. Adelson gave the PAC, Winning Our Future, $5 million just before the South Carolina primary, and this week, his wife gave the group another $5 million.

Vice President Biden Calls Gingrich Food Stamp Charge 'Ridiculous'

ollowing the president's speech last night, in which he called for greater economic fairness on taxes between the wealthy and middle class, Gingrich released a statement saying, "He will always prefer a food stamp economy to a paycheck economy and call it fair."
"It's hard to respond to Newt with those kind of ridiculous statements," Vice President Biden told me on "GMA." "Do they actually think that President Barack Obama wants to put everybody on food stamps? I don't know what they mean by it quite frankly… There must be some base they're trying to appeal to. I just don't know."
"We have a different priority set than Newt Gingrich and apparently… and our Republican colleagues have," Biden added.
Biden also pushed initiatives promoted by Obama in his address, i

Stress Busters for Anxious Pets

redit: Andrew Bret Wallis/Getty Images
We know that stress can affect the health of humans, but how about for our pets?
" Good Morning America" pet expert Dr. Marty Becker says pets can be stressed by car rides, visits to the vet or grooming.
Dr. Becker appeared on "GMA" today to show his favorite products to help soothe your beloved family pet.
1.  Feliway Electric Diffuser and Adaptil
Available for both dogs and cats, this scent mimics pheromones, the chemical naturally produced by animal moms to soothe their babies.  The diffuser is great when you leave your pet alone and the spritz is perfect to spray in a pet carrier for long trips.  Dr. Becker puts this on his hands when he treats pets to give them a sense of calm during their visits.
2.  Through a Dog's Ear
If you think your dog doesn't care about your music playlist, think again.

Navy SEALs Rescue Two Aid Workers in Somalia in Daring Raid

.S. special operations team of Navy SEALs  rescued two aid workers in Somalia Tuesday night, including a U.S. woman who had been held hostage for three months by Somali kidnappers and suffered from a life-threatening medical condition.
Jessica Buchanan, 32, of Bedford, Va.,  and Poul Hagen Thisted, 60, of Denmark, were abducted Oct. 25 by a band of Somalis while on their way to the airport in Galcayo,  located in central Somalia. Both were working for the Danish Refugee Council's Danish Demining Group, and had just finished a training course for local Somali citizens when they were abducted.
In a statement released by the White House, President Obama said he had authorized a rescue mission Monday.
"Thanks to the extraordinary courage and capabilities of our Special Operations Forces, yesterday Jessica Buchanan was rescued and she is on her way home. As Commander-in-Chief, I could not be prouder of the troops who carried out this mission, and the dedicated professionals who supported their efforts," Obama said in the statement.
The president said he spoke with Buchanan's father Monday night, "and told him that all Americans have Jessica in our thoughts and prayers, and give th

Wife of Italian Cruise Captain Calls Treatment of Husband 'Shameful'

the wife of Captain Francesco Schettino, spoke out in a cover story in Oggi, an Italian weekly magazine, which hit newsstands today. In the interview Russo says that her husband is a "maestro," and that there was a reason he was entrusted with the helm of the Concordia.
"My husband is at the center of an unprecedented global media storm," Russo said in the interview. "I cannot think of any other naval or air tragedy in which the responsible party was treated with such violence. This is a man hunt, people are looking for a scapegoat, a monster. It's shameful.
In the interview Russo, 48, also addresses claims that 52-year-old Schettino, whom the Italian press has dubbed "Captain Coward," recklessly steered the Concordia to disaster.
"He knows how to do his job, but sometimes even those who know how to do their job can make mistakes -- if he did make a mistake," she said. "He is decisive, stable and lucid. He analyzes situations, understands them and knows how to manage them."
Russo did however admit in the interview that at one point Schettino was fined for steering a boat too close to the shore.
"Our shared passion is canoeing -- to paddle together you have to be in symphony, which is what Francesco and I are," she said. "But we got fined once, because we took a little motorboat too close to the coast."
The Costa Concordia capsized on January 13 when it hit rocks near Italy's Tuscan coast. The cruise liner had 4,200 passengers onboard.
Officials said Tuesday that another body was found in the ship's wreckage, which brings the total death toll from the Costa Concordia tragedy to 16, leaving 17 victims still missing, including a Minnesota couple.

Apple Doubles First Quarter Sales, Sets $46 Billion Technology Record

revious year's numbers for the same period, blowing away Wall Street's expectations.
Apple sold approximately 37 million iPhones and 15.4 million iPads in its first quarter, which ended Dec. 31. The company's first-quarter profit more than doubled to $13.1 billion, up from $6 billion a year ago. Sales rose 73 percent to $46.3 billion from $26.7 billion for the same period in 2010.
"We would attribute it to just a breath-taking customer reception of the iPhone 4S," CEO Tim Cook said Tuesday.
The iPhone 4S, with its new personal assistant application Siri, has proven to be a hit with consumers, who again flocked to Apple stores in droves when the phone was rolled out in October.
Apple didn't do too shabby on the personal computer end if its business either, with 5.2 million Macintosh computers sold in the quarter compared with 4.1 mill

Depression Could Be Linked to Your Mother, Says Study

Audrey Gruss knows the devastation of depression -- her mother suffered from the enigmatic mood disorder most of her adult life, misdiagnosed, over-medicated and even treated with electroconvulsive "shock" therapy during the 1960 and 70s.
"None of the doctors ever told us what was happening," said Gruss. "We were embarrassed, ashamed and frightened."
When her mother died in 2005, Gruss vowed to find out why doctor's couldn't "do more to make her whole."

State of the Union: Fact Checking the President

ABC News' Huma Khan, Elizabeth Hartfield, Matt Negrin, Chris Good, Amy Bingham, Jeunee Simon, Greg Krieg, Meg Fowler and Sarah Parnass report:
Fact or Fiction Number 1 - The Booming Economy: Obama's Jobs Story
Did the economy crater before President Obama's inauguration, then rebound once his policies took effect?
It seems unlikely that the president would utter inaccurate jobs numbers during his State of the Union address, but while we wait for official White House citation, the president made at least one claim that for now looks iffy. The transcript:
" In the six months before I took office, we lost nearly four million jobs. And we lost another four million before our policies were in full effect. Those are the facts. But so are these. In the last 22 months, businesses have created more than three million jobs. Last year, they created the most jobs since 2005."
4 million jobs lost in 6 months before Obama took office: Looks like this total falls short of 4 million. Subtracting the total employment listed in the January 2009 Bureau of Labor Statistics employment report from the same total in August 2008, one arrives at 3.378 million jobs lost. **
Another 4 million jobs lost before Obama's policies took full effect. Using this Bureau of Labor Statistics table, starting at February 2009, the sum of monthly job losses surpass 4 million in October 2009. President Obama's stimulus was passed in February 2009-though it took notoriously long for that money to make its way out the door.

3 million jobs created over 22 months, more jobs created in 2011 than in any year since 2005. Using total employment, Obama's numbers don't hold up. According to the same BLS table, the economy added 2.056 million jobs over 21 months (counting backward, the next month saw job losses). And 2011 saw more job growth than any year since 2006, not 2005. But Politifact notes that Obama's statement was accurate-he was talking about private-sector jobs.
**UPDATE: President Obama was referencing private-sector jobs exclusively when talking about jobs lost before his time in office, according to the White House official. Based on this private-sector jobs chart, the economy lost 3.506 jobs in the six months before his inauguration, not four million.
Fact or Fiction Number 2 - Obama's Plan for Foreclosures
"That's why I'm sending this Congress a plan that gives every responsible homeowner the chance to save about $3,000 a year on their mortgage, by refinancing at historically low interest rates. No more red tape. No more runaround from the banks. A small fee on the largest financial institutions will ensure that it won't add to the deficit, and will give banks that were rescued by taxpayers a chance to repay a deficit of trust."
The Obama administration has announced a number of programs to salvage the housing market, which continues to be a drag on the U.S. economy. Today, the president was referring to a plan he announced in October from the front porch of a home in Las Vegas, which has one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country. The president's plan would allow struggling homeowners who have mortgages backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac to refinance without getting a new appraisal or a full credit check. The program would also eliminate some risk-based fees for borrowers.
The proposal would alter the $75 billion Home Affordable Refinance Program, or HARP, which was launched in 2009 to help distressed homeowners.
If a homeowner has a mortgage of $250,000 at a 6 percent interest rate, they would be able to take advantage of record low interest rates and refinance their home. If they got a rate that's 4.5 percent or lower, the homeowner would save $250 a month, or $3,000 a year. Given that there are 4 million homeowners who are backed by government-sponsored entities, the administration says the program can help millions of

New York City Mayor Bloomberg pledges to match donations to Planned Parenthood cut by Komen

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is pledging up to $250,000 to Planned Parenthood to offset funds that were cut by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast cancer foundation.
The billionaire mayor has promised to match future donations to Planned Parenthood up to $250,000, mayoral spokeswoman Samantha Levine said Thursday. The health services organization uses the money for breast cancer screenings.
Bloomberg, a Democrat turned Republican turned independent, said politics "have no place" in health care.
"Breast cancer screening saves lives, and hundreds of thousands of women rely on Planned Parenthood for access to care," he said in a written statement. "We should be helping women access that care, not placing barriers in their way."
Many donors and cancer research advocates were outraged after the Komen foundation said it was cutting off funding to Planned Parenthood because of new criteria for giving grants. Critics accused it of bowing to pressure from anti-abortion activists.
"People all across the country have stepped forward in the last 48 hours to offer help and support, and the mayor's donation will help ensure that no woman is denied breast cancer services because of right-wing political pressure campaigns," Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a written statement.
The mayor sent out a Twitter message Thursday afternoon urging other donors to come forward.
"Join me in standing with Planned Parenthood to protect and promote women's health," he tweeted.
Bloomberg, who founded the financial services news company Bloomberg LP, was a Democrat before switching to the Republican Party in 2001, the year he was first elected mayor. In 2007, he left the party while flirting with a possible presidential run as an independent. He was re-elected mayor as an independent in 2009.
